Technical

The efficiency and performance of biomass heat and / or power generation systems is often determined by the compatibility and quality of the fuel used and the suitability of the conversion technology employed. It is important that anyone considering using or installing a biomass system or  producing or supplying biomass derived fuels is aware of the technical attributes of the wide range of potential fuel sources, fuel processing equipment and conversion technologies available.

Research and development of biomass fuelled heat and power generation systems has been ongoing for many decades. This has translated into a growing number of operational, commercially viable heat and power generation systems installed by individuals and businesses across the country.

This section aims to draw together information emerging from this body of research and experience and highlight some of the technical pros and cons associated with the range of fuel sources and conversion technologies that may be encountered by the biomass user, producer and system installer.
