Offcuts and sawdust from those industries and processes that work with untreated wood are excluded from the Waste Incineration Directive (WID), and can be handled in the same way as other virgin wood. The Environment Agency has officially declassified virgin wood as no longer waste.
They can potentially make a valuable contribution to the supply of woodfuel.
Bark may also be used for energy production, and specific bark boilers are used for energy production in such industries as paper manufacture and sawmills.
